Greatest Transitions by Neil Young #1
From "Neil Young" to "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere"
Amazing change from a lot of acoustic over produced recordings to punch you in the mouth rock. Not only did Neil make this change within one record, but he did it in only 5 months between release dates. The Rockets / Crazy Horse gave Neil Young that freedom to really get out on his "mining" exploration and created some amazing leads. Some say that Neil uses Crazy Horse because he is the dominating personality. That he can have this band do it his way even though they are not that good. I believe that Ralph, Billy, and Danny (and then Frank in 1975) really sets Neil at ease. Some personalities that let you have a canvas to paint on can be pretty amazing. If they can get into a groove, they can allow Neil to go to where he wants to go.
I heard that Neil wanted to mix Bob Dylan with the Rolling Stones. Bob Dylan got The Band in the mid 60s. Neil got Crazy Horse. Hopefully Toast is on its way. got to love the HORSE!
